Petrol bomb damages pub

A public house in Galway was damaged in a petrol bomb attack early yesterday

A public house in Galway was damaged in a petrol bomb attack early yesterday. Two petrol bombs, one of which exploded, were thrown into the Stage Door premises in Woodquay at 4.55 a.m. after a glass panel was smashed.

Gardai who were in the vicinity had the fire under control with extinguishers when the fire brigade arrived at the scene.

Supt Tony Finnerty of Mill Street Garda station confirmed that a car was found burned out nearby. Gardai believe the two incidents could be connected.

The pub was taken over recently by a well known city publican, Mr Val Hanley, and was reopened last Friday after extensive refurbishment. Mr Hanley had installed strong, laminated glass in front of the premises in response to a recent incident.
