Disgraced former Philippine president Mr Joseph Estrada made a late appearance for his trial on the charge of economic plunder today after saying he would not show up.
Mr Estrada entered the court at 2 p.m. (7 a.m. Irish time), about one hour after the scheduled start.
Mr Estrada had said earlier he would not attend the trial, claiming it was his right. The three judges of the Sandiganbayan anti-graft court had ordered police to produce the former president.
Mr Estrada, who was ousted from office in January by a people revolt, faces the death penalty or life in prison if he is convicted.
