Details of the next Guardian Dublin International Piano Competition have been announced. It will take place at the RDS and the National Concert Hall between May 2nd and 15th, 1997.
The total prize money will exceed £50,000, with the first prize winner receiving £10,000, a Kawai grand piano, and a number of prestigious engagements. New prizes are being awarded in 1997 for the performance of pieces by Schubert and Brahms.
Four special test pieces have been commissioned from Irish composers, Raymond Deane, Fergus Johnston, John Kinsella and Kevin Volans. Twenty four players will be admitted from the first to the round.
