The Aer Lingus Local Group of the Irish Air Line Pilots' Association has voted to accept a report on pilots' pay by an independent assessor, Mr Phil Flynn.

The chairman of the group, Capt Dermot Rafferty, welcomed the result and said he was now looking forward to the implementation of the report, completed in June by Mr Flynn, the chairman of ICC Bank and a former president of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions.

The report recommends an average pay rise of 7 per cent for Aer Lingus's 370 pilots in return for changes in work practices and a radical reform of salary structures.
