The Army bomb disposal unit was called to the Finglas area of Dublin last night following the discovery of a pipe bomb.
Gardaí were alerted to the presence of the explosive device on Dunsink Lane at around 11pm. The Army was contacted and arrived on the scene at 12.45am.
The improvised explosive device did contain explosive content so no controlled explosion was carried out, but the device was made safe as it was ready for immediate use.
The bomb disposal officer gave the all clear at 1.55 am. The remains of the device were handed over to gardaí for investigation.
