A SECOND pipe bomb has been discovered in the Dublin suburb of Crumlin, less than half a kilometre from where a similar device was disarmed by an Army bomb disposal team early on Sunday morning.
The second device was discovered at about 9.30pm on Sunday at the door of a house in Crumlin Park. Gardaí were alerted to the presence of the device by an anonymous caller.
Gardaí evacuated all houses in the immediate vicinity and contacted the Army explosives ordnance disposal unit. The unit disarmed the device, which was described as an "improvised pipe bomb". It was yesterday being examined at Cathal Brugha Barracks, Rathmines.
No arrests had been made last night in relation to the find, but gardaí are investigating the possibility that it is connected to the discovery of another bomb in the Crumlin area less than 24 hours previously.
Shortly after midnight on Sunday, gardaí received an emergency call, also anonymous, reporting that someone was seen interfering with the underside of a car in a driveway of a house on Captain's Road. Within minutes, a second anonymous call was received giving similar details.
Gardaí discovered what appeared to be a suspicious device attached to the underside of the car and contacted the Army ordnance disposal unit, which disarmed the device. This device was also identified as a "homemade" or improvised pipe bomb.
