A pipebomb exploded outside a house in Crumlin, south Dublin last night.
Gardaí believe the device was thrown into the garden of the house on Monasterboice Road from a passing car at around 11pm. It exploded under a window.
An Army bomb disposal team was called to the scene and investigated the remains of the bomb, which left scorch marks and a small crater in the garden.
An Army spokesman said a parked car was also damaged. There were no injuries, although local residents were evacuated for a time while the device was being dealt with.
No arrests were made.
Gardaí are now examining the remains of the bomb.
