Two men were arrested in Dundalk over the weekend and a significant quantity of pirated goods recovered in a continuing crackdown by gardaí against counterfeiting and copyright offences.
The seizure of approximately €120,000 worth of DVDs and CDs was made in two separate searches. They were found when a van and a car were stopped and searched early on Saturday morning close to Dundalk town centre.
The raids were carried out by Dundalk gardaí and members of the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation. Gardaí suspect the goods would have been sold at open-air markets in the north-east region.
Two men were arrested and questioned under the Criminal Justice Act and later released without charge. Files are being prepared for the DPP.
Last week gardaí in Dundalk recovered close to €500,000 worth of counterfeit DVDs and CDs in a house in the town. Sources said the weekend seizure was separate but part of a larger investigation against copyright offence.
