Plans for a day of action in Ireland in the event of a war breaking out in Iraq have been announced in Dublin.

The organisers of the February 15th protest march, in which an estimated 100,000 - 120,000 people participated, today announced details of the Irish element of what will be an international day of action if Iraq is attacked.

Plans for DAY X, the name given to the day hostilities break out, have been agreed by anti-war organisations and activists across the world.

A ten-minute work stoppage will take place countrywide at midday the day war breaks out and people have been called upon to stop work, walk out of class, lectures, and to protest where ever they are.

Organisers have also called for protesters to wear a white ribbon or armband in protest.

They are also calling for protests at 6 p.m. the same evening in every city, town and village across the country. In Dublin, protesters are to gather at the US embassy in Ballsbridge.

National protests are being planned in every major town and city for the Saturday following the expected outbreak of hostilities.

The three groups organising the protests are the Irish Anti War Movement, the Peace & Neutrality Alliance and the Peace Alliance. They announced their plans by calling on those who joined and supported the February 15th protests to support the action on Day X.
