The new Minister for Health, Mr Martin, has been urged to make funding available for a hostel and rehabilitation centre in Cork city for AIDS sufferers who wish to return from abroad for treatment.
Mr Noel Collins, an Independent member of Cork County Council, said that many people who had developed full-blown AIDS wanted to return to Cork from as far away as Canada, Australia, the US and the UK. "This is a very sad situation, where our own people have to go abroad for hostel-cum-rehabilitation care, far away from family and friends, and where some die in total isolation", Cllr Collins told yesterday's meeting of Cork County Council.
