The Dublin Theatre Festival opens tonight and will feature over 180 presentations by 21 national and international production groups over the weekend.

International groups from Siberia, Belgium, Germany, the United States, France, Britain, Canada and Hungary will feature; Irish productions come from Druid, Corn Exchange, Farcry Productions and Rough Magic.

Autumn settles in this weekend with the weather forecast to get cooler and fresher over the next few days. The "sunny spells and showers" staple of Irish weather forecasts will be much in evidence both on Saturday and Sunday.

Hardy souls can brave the elements at the National Ploughing Championships in Carlow, where 31 countries are expected to participate in the World Ploughing Contest over the weekend.

On the sporting front, it is a relatively quiet weekend after the excitement of last week's Ryder Cup. Armagh and Cork go head to head on Sunday in the Ladies All-Ireland football final at Croke Park. Kick-off is at 3.15pm, and traffic is expected to be heavy in the area.

Racing is at Fairyhouse on Saturday with the first race starting at 2.15pm.
