Pobal, a non-profit organisation which manages Government programmes, confirmed today it was in the process of making 90 staff redundant.
Following negotiations with staff and unions, it has already secured a reduction of more than 60 posts through a recruitment freeze and voluntary means. The Labour Relations Commission is chairing talks concerning the final 30 redundancies.
The redundancies follow a cut in Pobal’s 2009 operational budget in a Government cost-saving measure.
Pobal Chief Executive Denis Leamy said Pobal had been trying to negotiate these challenges in a manner that reflected its concern for the welfare of its staff. Examples of programmes managed by Pobal include the National Childcare Investment Programme, the Rapid programme, the Rural Transport Scheme and the Dormant Accounts Fund.
