The people behind Co Wicklow's newest secondary school are so keen to have the facility up and running that they are loath to let a little thing like a couple of ESB poles get in the way.
Instead of waiting for the pair of electricity poles to be relocated, the developers of the new Gaelcholáiste na Mara premises at Vale Road, Arklow, are constructing the school around them.
A school spokeswoman said the ESB had promised to remove the poles, adding that in the meantime construction was advancing well.
"Obviously the VEC was so willing for the school to go ahead that it decided not to wait. Assurances have been received from the ESB that the poles will be removed, so there was no reason why builders could not start. This meant that the project avoided delays."
The new school, which aims to cater for up to 350 pupils, is expected to be built by Easter. Two new classes are due to start there in September. Over the next few years additional classes will be phased in with the arrival of a new first year group each September.
