Detectives investigating the murder of a Chinese woman found dead in a car boot in Belfast have been allowed a 36-hour extension to the detention of two suspects.

The body of the victim, believed to be in her early 20s, was found stuffed into a binbag in the back of a Ford Escort parked at an Antrim Road filling station.

Police made the arrests early yesterday after being tipped off about suspicious activity outside a house on nearby Skegoneill Avenue.

An interpreter has been brought in to assist police questioning the men, both also Chinese. Despite an appeal for help in identifying the murdered woman, no name has emerged.

The victim is 5ft 4ins tall, of slim build, with shoulder length black hair and a centre parting. She also had a small birthmark above her knee.   Although a post-mortem examination was carried out yesterday, police refused to reveal the exact cause of death.

But they dismissed reports that she had been dismembered.
