A police officer was killed and two others wounded this evening in the Spanish capital of Madrid when they attempted to arrest two suspects believed to be involved in the murder of an Equadorian waiter last week.
Police said one of the suspects, a Colombian national, was also injured in the shootout that ensued after he opened fire on police as the officers attempted to seize him.
The second man was also arrested and taken for questioning.
The officers had been watching the two suspects in a telephone booth in the east of the city.

The two were wanted in connnection with the killing of a 36-year-old Equadorian who was stabbed to death in Madrid on Saturday.
