Several PSNI officers were injured when they were attacked by an angry crowd in the centre of Derry early today.
One officer was detained in hospital with hand and arm injuries after the trouble in the Strand Road area at about 2am.
A PSNI spokesman said officers responding to a serious assault outside a bar in the street were set upon by a crowd.
Volleys of bottles, stones and other missiles were hurled at police . At one stage scaffolding around a building was demolished and used against police, said the spokesman.

So far five men have been arrested for public order offences.
