An incident in which a policeman was injured when a car ran a roadblock in Co Derry today is being treated as attempted murder.

Police said the Northern Ireland-registered car had earlier driven at speed through a roadblock set up by Garda across the nearby border at Burnfoot, Co Donegal.

Alerted by gardaí, PSNI fficers set up a checkpoint in the Drumleck area.A police spokeswoman said that on seeing the checkpoint the car swerved and drove at two police officers, hitting one of them. He escaped with only minor injuries.

Police said they were treating the incident as attempted murder.

Anyone who was in the Drumleck area and witnessed the incident is asked to contact police.

The car, a blue-green Vauxhall Astra, registration HUI 3761, is sought by police.
