Gardaí in Limerick are investigating an attack on a Polish man who suffered serious burn injuries when he was attacked in the city at the weekend.
The victim, who is in his late 30s, was returning from a night out when he was attacked by a gang of youths who threw a flammable liquid on him and set him alight.
The incident occurred at about 2am along the Dock Road as the man was making his way to Dooradoyle where he was staying with friends for the weekend.
The victim, who is living and working in Co Tipperary, was brought to the Mid-Western Regional hospital after he arrived to his friend's house with serious burns to his face and hands.
Gardaí were alerted and he was later transferred to the Specialist Burns Unit at Cork University Hospital where his condition was described yesterday as serious but not life-threatening.
