The popular tabloid Faktwants to target tens of thousands of Polish speakers who have made their home here.

The 32-page edition, out every Thursday, will carry news from both countries.

Poland’s prime minister Donald Tusk said it will allow expatriates to keep in touch with their roots.

“The launch of this newspaper is a very significant event,” he said.

“It proves that the Polish living both in our country and far away from our motherland seek and desire being in touch with one another.”

It is the latest Polish language publication to be introduced on the Irish market, joining StrefaEire, Polska Gazeta, Evening Heraldsupplement Polski Heraldand glossy magazine Polski Express.

Editor-in-chief Jan Domaniewski said the newspaper offers more choice for the sizeable Polish population living in Ireland.

" Fakthas been an undeniable leader on the Polish daily press market since its first issue over five years ago," he said.

“During those years, the immigration of Polish citizens to Great Britain and Ireland has significantly increased and research shows that only 12 per cent of Poles are willing to return home.

"Many of these Poles used to be loyal Faktreaders, which means that Faktstill remains as a well-known brand for them."

An initial print run of 13,000 copies was distributed to supermarkets, newsagents and other outlets in areas with large Polish populations.

The newspaper will be available across the country with a particular focus on the cities of Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway and Waterford.

It is published by Axel Springer AG, which also publishes German tabloid Bild, Europe's biggest selling newspaper.
