Poland: Poland's security services are investigating whether a British resident of the country played any role in last week's deadly bomb attack on central London.
Police in the eastern city of Lublin raided the apartment of the man, who is of Pakistani origin, and took away his personal computer amid widespread fears in Poland that its support for the US-led war in Iraq could make it a prime target.
Poland's Internal Security Agency (ABW) said the man had not been charged, but was under suspicion, after reportedly sending e-mails following last Thursday's attacks saying: "It was my job" and "I hope you know what jihad is."
"The evidence collected does not rule out a possible link between this man and an extremist group," said an ABW spokeswoman yesterday.
"We are checking, among other things, the contents of the hard disk of his computer."
Polish police increased security around the capital Warsaw yesterday after receiving bomb threats from an unknown caller.
That call came a day after a hoax bomb alert forced the evacuation of the city's metro system. Along with Britain, Poland has been one of the US's strongest allies in Iraq. It has also been one of the countries hardest hit by last week's attack on London. At least three Polish women are now feared dead.
British police are reported to be in Poland obtaining dental records and other documents that could be used to help identify the victims.
