Drivers told to avoid Newlands Cross after water main bursts

M7 outbound lane reopens but road will remain closed to inbound traffic until tomorrow

There is widespread traffic disruption in west Dublin this evening after the M7 motorway was shut for a period after a water main burst at Newlands Cross.

The outbound lane has reopened but the inbound lane will remain closed until tomorrow. However, outbound traffic has tailed back on to the M50 and gardaí are warning of long delays.

They are also warning of serious traffic disruption on the N81 Tallaght bypass, where part of the diverted traffic from the M7 was being sent.

Road users are being advised by gardai to to avoid Newlands Cross and the N7 inbound if possible.

Traffic on the M50 had been diverted at junction 11 (Tallaght) earlier after the water main burst.

The M7 motorway links Dublin with Limerick and Cork and traffic volumes are particularly high with large numbers of people leaving the city for the May Bank Holiday weekend.
