With a strong Fianna Fáil presence in the south east, James Browne (44) was always expected to retain his seat.
Browne’s family has had a long-lasting allegiance to the party, with his father John Browne having served as minister of state until 2016, and his great-uncle Seán Browne serving as a Fianna Fáil TD for almost 25 years, up until 1982.
First elected to the Dáil in 2016, he replaced his father, John, who announced he would not be seeking party nomination in the last election.
Prior to being elected as a TD, he was a member of Enniscorthy Town Council and then Wexford County Council.
The married father of two is a qualified barrister who studied at Waterford IT, UCC and the King’s Inns.
For the past four years, he has assumed the role of Fianna Fáil’s spokesman on mental health, with a particular focus on waiting lists for the children and adolescents’ mental health service.
