The Minister for Health Leo Varadkar has said that the Coalition will last the full term in power.

Speaking on the launch of new national clinical guidelines, the Minister said that Fine Gael and Labour will stay in government together until the next scheduled general election.

“The Taoiseach has been very clear about this [issue]. The plan of the Government is to go to full term and to have the election in March or April 2016.”

Mr Varadkar’s claim followed his announcement of new national guidelines aimed at standardising clinical practices.

It follows on from earlier reports of disagreements within Fine Gael over the date of the next general election and that Opposition parties were planning for a late 2015 election.
