The Department of Health is to consider proposals aimed at relieving pressure on accident and emergency services in Dublin's six major hospitals. The Minister for Health said they would be considered mainly in the context of 1998 spending.

Mr Cowen was responding to the Fine Gael spokesman on health, Mr Alan Shatter, who asked if he would provide "a cash injection of £3 million to avert a crisis" at the hospitals this winter.
