The Minister for Education, Dr Woods, said he was prepared to facilitate negotiations for the Association of Secondary Teachers in Ireland (ASTI), but he told the Dail he was "not prepared to break the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness".

During a special notice question on the ASTI dispute, the Minister said the "process is there and the negotiating table is available" through the benchmarking body.
