A new opinion poll indicates Fine Gael could lose one of the five seats in Wexford to Fianna Fáil.

According to the IMS poll, transfers would secure Wexford hurling manager Mr Tony Dempsey the fifth seat in Wexford constituency at the expense of sitting TD Mr Michael D’Arcy.

Fianna Fáil is set to win three seats in returning Mr John Browne, Mr Hugh Byrne, and Mr Demspey, according to the poll. Labour’s Mr Brendan Howlin and Fine Gael's Ms Avril Doyle are tipped to take the other seats.

The poll reported the first preference votes as: Mr Brown (FF), 22 per cent; Mr Howlin (Labour), 18 per cent; Mr Byrne (FF), 17 per cent; Ms Doyle (FG), 11 per cent; Mr A’Arcy (FG), 9 per cent; Mr Dempsey (FF), 6 per cent; and Mr John Dwyer (SF), 6 per cent.
