Thousands of wild brown trout have been killed by pollution in a Co Meath river.
The fish died on a three-mile stretch of the River Inny in Oldcastle yesterday.
Officers from the Shannon Regional Fisheries Board (SRFB) were today removing as many fish as possible to limit the risk of further kills.
"Staff responded last night to reports about this incident and worked late into the night to identify the source," a SRFB spokesman said.

"We are following a definite line of inquiry and samples from the river are being analysed at the moment."
The River Inny, which is rich in trout, roach, and pike stocks, flows for more than 50 kilometres before entering Lough Sheelin in Co Cavan.
