A Limerick Corporation porter had to receive medical attention after he was attacked during a protest yesterday afternoon against the introduction of charges for the refuse collection service.
Gardai were called to City Hall during a corporation meeting which had to be adjourned. It is understood they took the name of a man, and the alleged assault is being investigated.
The disorder arose when corporation staff attempted to limit the number of protesters - members of the Limerick Against Refuse Charges campaign - seeking access to the public meeting in the council chamber.
