A hotel near one of Ireland's most famous golf courses was evacuated today during an early morning blaze.

A hotel near one of Ireland's most famous golf courses was evacuated today during an early morning blaze.

Eight fire engines have been sent to the Portmarnock Hotel and Golf Links in north Dublin to fight the fire, which started on the roof at about 6am.

There have been no reports of any injuries.

The hotel overlooks a beach and is based in a house formerly owned by the Jameson family, whose Irish whiskey is renowned worldwide.

The hotel has its own 18 hole links course designed by former US Masters champion Bernhard Langer from Germany who captained the last European Ryder Cup team to victory last year.

The hotel is also near Portmarnock Golf Club which has hosted the Irish Open.
