The President of Portugal, Dr Jorge Sampaio, begins the second day of a three-day State visit to Ireland this morning . He is accompanied by his wife, Maria Jose-Ritta.
The couple met the President, Mrs McAleese, and the Taoiseach, Mr Ahern, yesterday. They also opened a Portuguese art exhibition at the Guinness Hop Store.
After a meeting with the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Alderman Joe Doyle, at the Mansion House this morning, the couple will host a reception at the National Gallery this evening.
They will visit Newgrange tomorrow before departing from Dublin Airport in the afternoon.

Dr Sampaio is a member of the Portuguese Socialist Party and began a five-year term as President in January 1996.
