A preliminary post mortem on a man who died following a stabbing incident in Waterford City yesterday morning shows he died from a single stab wound to the neck.

Mr Gary Doyle (28) was attacked in the Ballybeg Drive area of the city at around 3.00 a.m.

The single father-of-one was walking with his partner and a group of others near his family home at Priory Lawn, Ballybeg when he got involved in an altercation.

He was rushed to Waterford Regional Hospital but died shortly afterwards.

A man in his 20s was questioned in relation to the incident last night before being released. A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions. Gardaí say the investigation is ongoing.
