Post mortems to follow Carlow shooting

The State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy will carry out post-mortems on the bodies of two men shot dead in Co Carlow yesterday.

The men have been named locally as Michael Keogh and James Healy, who were both in their 30s.

Mr Healy and his brother were preparing to put up a fence on a plot of land that they had recently bought at Coolyhune Cross, close to the border with Co Carlow, when they got into an argument with Mr Keogh.

A shot was fired from a shotgun and Mr Healy was killed.

Gardai were called to the scene but after several hours of negotiations a shot was heard from an outhouse and Mr Keogh was found dead.

Gardai are not looking for anyone in connection with the incident.
