A post office worker has been injured and a security worker robbed in two separate armed raids, gardaí have said.
The post office employee suffered an injury to one of her eyes, believed to be from shrapnel or shattered glass, after a gunman opened fire in an attempted robbery in Walkinstown, Dublin.
The woman was working in the post office on Bunting Road when two armed and masked burst in at about 9.30am.
The raiders threatened staff before one of them fired once at a glass protective screen.
No cash was taken in the raid and the woman’s injuries are not life threatening, a garda spokesman said.
In an earlier hold-up, two armed and masked men stopped a security worker as he was delivering cash to the Lidl supermarket on Thomas Street in Dublin.
One of the men was carrying a knife and the other is believed to have had an imitation weapon.
The security man handed over the cash bag, which contained at least €10,000, before the raiders fled on foot and the panic alarms on the cash-in-transit van were activated.
The robbery occurred at about 8.30am. No one was injured.
