The postal service will begin returning to normal by tomorrow but will take two weeks before backlogs are cleared, An Post said today.
Management and the Communications Workers' Union (CWU) last night settled the row over measures to be used to clear the backlog of mail left over from the recent dispute.
The two sides accepted a Labour Court recommendation on the issue shortly after 8 p.m. Earlier, a CWU proposal on the matter was rejected by management and the matter was referred to the Labour Court, which convened a hearing yesterday afternoon.
Talks on a recovery plan for An Post are due to resume at the Labour Relations Commission on Monday week.
A spokeswoman for the company said this morning they were expected a "substantial volumes" of bulk mail over the weekend that was held back for almost three weeks by companies during the dispute.
She said the number of items delivered had "increased steadily all week". All post boxes have been unsealed.
