An Post said the hazardous conditions had resulted in no post today in parts of Dublin, Wexford and Waterford.

The worst hit areas of the capital were Dublin 3,5,13,16,17 and Glenageary. An Post’s Dunshaughlin delivery office was also unable to supply Ashbourne Village.

Company spokeswoman Ann McHugh said delivery and collection services were reliant on local and minor routes, many of which had become impassable because of the heavy snowfall.

Mail is available for collection with suitable ID from the various sorting offices with the exception Dublin 16 and Gorey where it was not possible to deliver mail into the office, she said.

The company would do its utmost to deliver mail, particular registered and couriered post, but services in many parts were “at the mercy of the elements,” she added.
