GARDAÍ INVESTIGATING the death of a 26-year-old man whose body was washed up on the shore at Bundoran, Co Donegal, on Christmas Eve are hoping the results of a postmortem examination today will provide a clue as to what happened.

The body of Paul Foster, who was home from London for Christmas with his family in Ballyshannon, was discovered at low tide on the shore at the mouth of the Bradog river at 12.25pm on Wednesday.

He was fully dressed in casual clothing and is not thought to have been in the water more than a few hours. A mobile phone and a London Underground security pass were found on his clothing.

One theory under investigation by gardaí is that he may have accidentally fallen onto rocks from a cliff-top after a night socialising with friends in Ballyshannon and Bundoran, but they are awaiting the postmortem results.
