Postmortems are due to be carried out today on the bodies of twin brothers found dead in an apartment in Limerick yesterday.
The twins' remains are said to have been discovered by their mother after she got the landlord to open the apartment at Steamboat Quay in the city.
The brothers were named locally as Peter and Kevin Moran of Georgian Villages, Old Cork Road, Limerick. Aged in their 20s, they were found inside the flat at about 3.30pm. An investigation is continuing into the cause of their "tragic deaths", gardaí said.
Detectives believe the men may have died of a drugs overdose, although an investigation was continuing last night into the circumstances.
Gardaí said the brothers had no involvement in crime. News of their deaths had come as a shock to their family and friends.
The inquiry is being headed by Det Insp Tom O'Connor of Henry Street Garda station. The senior garda said the twins' mother had become concerned when they failed to contact her after a number of days.
"I'm investigating the circumstances into these men's tragic deaths. It seems they had been missing for a few days and their mother enlisted the help of a landlord of an apartment where they were found. It's a terrible tragedy for the family," Det Insp O'Connor said.Neighbours were trying to comfort family members last night.
Gardaí contacted the office of the State Pathologist yesterday and postmortems are due to be carried out today at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital in Limerick.
It is understood the twins had been trying to find work abroad in recent months. The apartment where they were discovered remained sealed off yesterday evening.
