AN antipothole campaigner, Mr Martin Hannigan (46), has won his campaign to get Cavan County Council to remove a road sign outside his home at Bough, near Cootehill.

The outgoing Fianna Fail TD, Dr Rory O'Hanlon, had discussions early yesterday with council officials and later informed the protester, who had fasted for 30 hours, that the sign would be moved. Later yesterday council workmen removed the sign, replacing it some 20 yards away from Mr Hannigan's entrance.

Mr Hannigan maintained the placing of the sign had been a response to his campaign about the poor state of the roads. The council insisted that the antipothole campaign had not been a factor in placing the sign.
