AT Dunshaughlin Court yesterday the Minister for Social Welfare, Mr Ahern, was fined Pounds 150 by Judge John Brophy for driving without due consideration for other road users.Ashbourne, on November 21st, 1996. The admission was made by his solicitor, Mr Gavin McAlinden. The Minister was in court but did not speak during the brief hearing.

Garda Donal Doyle, of Ashbourne, said Mr Ahern entered the right-turn lane at Garden City junction in Ashbourne and drove through into the median strip on the other side of the junction.

The garda said Mr Ahern was aware he had committed an indiscretion and had been apologetic.
