Powerscourt is on course for Royal Ascot after trouncing his rivals in the Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh yesterday.
The race lost much of its sparkle with the withdrawal of Godolphin's main hope Sulamani after the five-year-old suffered a subcutaneous pastern infection.
But nevertheless Powerscourt's performance could not be faulted and he is now reported to be on course for the Prince Of Wales's Stakes at the Royal Meeting.
Sent off at 100-30 shot, Powerscourt, having his first race since finishing third in last year's Irish St Leger, was soon in command of the Group One contest and once jockey Jamie Spencer pushed the button with two of the 10 furlongs left to go, he powered away to win by six lengths.
Godolphin's Naheef, who challenged briefly entering the home straight weakened tamely to leave Livadiya and the Richard Hannon-trained Nysaean to fill the minor places.
"This horse didn't do much wrong last year," said O'Brien "He had been working great and Jamie was full of confidence. He loved the ground out there today and was given a great ride. The plan was always to come here and then go to Ascot for the Prince of Wales's.
"There a a lot of routes open to him and I'd say that he's best at a mile and a quarter to a mile and a half."
