Judgment was reserved by the High Court yesterday in an application to prevent Radio 2000 Ltd, trading as Classic Hits 98FM, from terminating the employment of presenter Pat Courtenay.

On Friday, July 4th, Mr Courtenay, of Merchamp Apartments, Clontarf, Dublin, was given notice of his dismissal from August 1st as presenter of 98FM's Drive Time programme.

Ms Justice Laffoy, reserved judgment until Tuesday on an application for an injunction preventing the station from implementing Mr Courtenay's dismissal pending a full hearing.

In an affidavit, Mr Courtenay said that on June 9th the station's general manager wrote to him alleging he had broken an embargo in relation to the general election and that he was being suspended.

Mr Jeff O'Brien, the station's group programme director, said the station's management no longer had confidence in Mr Courtenay's ability to perform his duties.
