Italy's government expected Bank of Italy Governor Antonio Fazio to resign after it passed reforms overhauling the central bank following a takeover scandal, Economy Minister Domenico Siniscalco said today.
"We approved the reform on Friday and yesterday we expected the governor to do the sensible thing from an institutional point of view, and that didn't happen," Siniscalco said in a closed-door meeting, a participant at the meeting confirmed to Reuters.
