A retired priest has been returned for trial on two counts of indecently assaulting two teenage girls while working in the diocese of Cloyne some 30 years ago.

Fr Dan Duane (72), with an address at the Presbytery, Cecilstown, Mallow, appeared at Mallow District Court today.

In February he was charged on two counts of indecently assaulting two teenage girls in Mallow between September 1st,1980 and  April 1st, 1982.

The court heard today that a book of evidence had been served on Fr Duane in both cases and the Director of Public Prosecutions  confirmed his indictment before a judge and jury.

Judge Eamon O'Brien agreed to an application from Declan O'Sullivan that Fr Duane be remanded on bail and appear at Cork District Court on May 10th next.
