The Primate of the Church of Ireland has called on everyone on the island not to tolerate any level of violence. In his Christmas message, Archbishop Robin Eames said that while paramilitary violence was slowly becoming a thing of the past, too many people were still prepared to live with what they saw as an "acceptable level of violence". "The Christian message of Christmas is one of hope - it is also one of immense challenge. If we are to build a really just and peaceful society there must be a sense of Christian responsibility and compassion," Dr Eames said.
