A 19-year-old man who is serving a four-year prison sentence and who claims he was raped by other inmates at Mountjoy prison early last August has secured leave from the High Court to challenge the prison authorities' refusal to transfer him.
Mr Gerard Hogan SC, for the prisoner, who is serving a sentence for burglary-related charges, said his client's allegations had not been contested and those alleged to have raped him had been transferred.
Counsel said the man had been traumatised and suffered physical and emotional stress. Mr Justice O'Donovan granted the prisoner leave to seek a judicial review of the prison authorities' refusal.
