Judge Patrick Smith said pressure on the probation services was the reason a report was not ready on Vincent Donegan (32), of Moansterboice, Co Louth, who had been due to be sentenced at Dundalk Circuit Criminal Court yesterday.
Last week the court convicted Donegan of possession of cannabis resin at Monasterboice on May 28th, 1995. He was also found guilty of possession with intent to supply.
The court heard that 154 bars of a brown substance were found in black plastic bags. Fifty bars had been analysed and found to contain cannabis resin sufficient to make over 100,000 cigarettes. At the time of the seizure the total value of the drugs was estimated at £300,000.
Judge Smith remanded Donegan in custody to Trim Circuit Court next Friday.
