European Commission President Romano Prodi has agreed to revive plans for a seminar on fighting anti-Semitism in Europe after the World Jewish Congress (WJC) backtracked on an attack on the European Union's executive arm.
Mr Prodi told a joint news conference after talks with WJC chairman Mr Israel Singer that full trust and cooperation had been restored after the two top leaders of the WJC and the European Jewish Congress sought a meeting to solve a controversy over an article they wrote accusing the Commission of anti-Semitism and self-censorship.
Mr Singer made no public apology but said the WJC had had full trust in Mr Prodi and his colleagues from the outset to lead a drive to change what he called a culture of anti-Semitism in Europe based on "violence, threats, fear".
