Orangemen may get to march down the Garvaghy Road, sooner rather than later, according to Parades Commission chairman Mr Tony Holland.
Mr Holland said he believed the example set in Derry, where the Royal Black Preceptory and the Bogside Residents’ Group meet to agree parade routes, will eventually be adopted in Portadown.
Speaking on BBC Radio Ulsterthis morning, Mr Hollandsaid he believed there would eventually be talks between Garvaghy Road residents and the Orange Order.
His comments follow a renewed offer from the spokesman for the Garvaghy Road Residents' Coalition, Mr Brendán MacCionnaith, to enter talks with the Orange Order.
Mr MacCionnaith said at the weekend that he was willing to discuss the possibility of future marches down the Gravaghy Road.
To date, the Order have refused to enter talks with the resident’s group.
