AUSTRALIA: Two Thai prostitutes died after being bound and thrown from a bridge into crocodile-infested waters in Australia's Northern Territory, police said yesterday.

The bodies of Somjai Insamnan (27) and Phuangsri Kroksamrang (58) were pulled from the Adelaide River after being reported missing last Monday. They were long-time Northern Territory residents.

Preliminary post-mortem results showed the women died by drowning, but so far tests have been unable to determine whether they had been sexually assaulted before being murdered.

Tourists on a crocodile-spotting cruise found the first body in the river, about 70 km south-east of Darwin.

More than 50 police officers are involved in the murder investigation, the territory's first double murder in 20 years.

Spectacular Crocodiles Cruises manager Peter Saltmarsh said the crocodiles hadn't got to the body found by tourists.
