ANTI DRUGS campaigners from west Tallaght in Dublin staged a protest outside the local Garda station yesterday evening after one of their leading members was arrested.

Mr Michael Warner was arrested yesterday at about 8.30 a.m. and held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, which allows suspects to be held for up to 48 hours.

About 150 people marched from Killinarden to the Garda station. As they approached it around 5.30 p.m., Mr Warner was released. He joined the march and later went back into the station as part of a delegation of protesters.

He said that while under arrest the Garda had questioned him about two recent shooting incidents in Tallaght. "I wasn't there either time," he said.

The protesters said they believe local gardai have been taking too much interest in the anti drugs organisation, and not enough in the drug dealers.
